Chris Guo Artist Statement
Art is a means of communication. I think that as an artist, communication is once of my most valuable assets. In my own work, I aim to communicate emotional experiences that people will want to respond to. Although the audience cannot directly know the situations where my own personal emotions arise from, they might use their own experiences to relate to them, and in the end that is my goal: to allow people to see themselves or their experiences represented through the experience of viewing art.
As I head into entertainment art and animation, my goal is to create art that represents more than just myself. My interest in entertainment art comes from my own experience with it as a young teenager and adult and how much it has helped me articulate my personal feelings through engaging with this kind of art. While some of my art may be deeply personal, what I want the audience to derive from it is whatever they can empathize with – not to understand my feelings, but to become more in tune with their own.
