Devorah Friedman
I have, for the longest time, been enamored with painting portraits. There can be nothing lovelier than the human face (and/or figure). Portrait painting is a daunting task given the challenge of the medium. It’s always been my goal to have that face leap off the paper and ask the viewer to linger — wonder about what he feels looking at the subject , what emotion has been captured and what is that person thinking or what kind of life has the subject led. In working from photos it is through a strong sense of saturated color, careful use of lost and found edges and a love of what the subject represents that I hope I am able to achieve something special.
