Golden Artist Colors Demonstration - May 3
by Joan Whitmore

We had a very informative May meeting with Christina Ramos giving us detailed information about Golden Artist Colors. Her product knowledge was awesome! It was almost too much to take in at one time! I took notes on things of particular interest to me.
I have used crackle paste but was not aware to let it dry overnight before adding paint for a crackle effect. Also when using fluorescent colors it is important to use a UV protective spray or the colors will turn muddy over time. Cristina passed around samples of their extensive product line. I learned about modern versus mineral based paints and how the colors mix differently depending on their base. Zinc white is good for color mixing instead of titanium white, which turns colors pastel. High flow acrylics are good for fabric painting or for refillable pens. Hospital grade rubbing alcohol sprayed on high flow paint yields an alcohol ink look. Golden’s open paint line has a longer drying time for those who have a hard time with fast drying acrylics. Iridescent gold painted on tissue paper over a red painted base gives a gold leaf effect. She used molding paste as a base for subtractive painting. The fiber paste has the texture of rough watercolor paper and will be fun to try.
She also introduced us to their watercolor line. They have everything for a mixed media artist. We got sample packages after the presentation also! If you haven’t tried their products give it a try they are a premium company.
